Today is supposed to be my retreat day.  <\/span>But, our nanny is sick.  <\/span>Garrett is particularly cranky today, and chose to start the day at 5:20<\/st1:time>.  <\/span>So, I quickly formulated a coping plan this morning, a plan that is my \u201cgo-to\u201d for cranky kids: we need to get outside.  <\/span>It\u2019s exhausting simply preparing to leave the house, particularly with a whiny little boy crying sadly at my legs.  <\/span>But I press on with my plan because fresh air solves many problems.  <\/span><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

 Surprisingly, the twins were mostly content in the stroller as I pushed them during my walk (and very much enjoyed playing in the rain at the end).  <\/span>But, it was the eagles which spoke to me today.  <\/span>I was feeling angry that my disease and it’s treatment limit my energy level.  <\/span>I was on edge because I am tired and my whining kids can push me to places I don\u2019t like to be.  <\/span>Today was to be a day of peace; but, caring for two 1 year olds is anything but peaceful.  <\/span>I set out on my walk to my usual destination: the river.  <\/span>I was greeted at the trailhead by a majestic eagle regally perched.  <\/span>And my heart paused.  <\/span>My God is present with me always.  <\/span>In the peace and in the crazy.  <\/span>And I was reminded of Isaiah 40:<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

 Look up into the heavens.<\/span><\/span>
<\/span>    <\/span><\/span>Who created all the stars?<\/span><\/span>
He brings them out like an army, one after another,<\/span><\/span>
<\/span>    <\/span><\/span>calling each by its name.<\/span><\/span>
Because of his great power and incomparable strength,<\/span><\/span>
<\/span>    <\/span><\/span>not a single one is missing.<\/span><\/span>
<\/span>27 <\/span><\/sup><\/b><\/span>O Jacob, how can you say the<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span>Lord<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span>does not see your troubles?<\/span><\/span>
<\/span>    <\/span><\/span>O Israel, how can you say God ignores your rights?<\/span><\/span>
<\/span>28 <\/span><\/sup><\/b><\/span>Have you never heard?<\/span><\/span>
<\/span>    <\/span><\/span>Have you never understood?<\/span><\/span>
The<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span>Lord<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span>is the everlasting God,<\/span><\/span>
<\/span>    <\/span><\/span>the Creator of all the earth.<\/span><\/span>
He never grows weak or weary.<\/span><\/span>
<\/span>    <\/span><\/span>No one can measure the depths of his understanding.<\/span><\/span>
<\/span>29 <\/span><\/sup><\/b><\/span>He gives power to the weak<\/span><\/span>
<\/span>    <\/span><\/span>and strength to the powerless.<\/span><\/span>
<\/span>30 <\/span><\/sup><\/b><\/span>Even youths will become weak and tired,<\/span><\/span>
<\/span>    <\/span><\/span>and young men will fall in exhaustion.<\/span><\/span>
<\/span>31 <\/span><\/sup><\/b><\/span>But those who trust in the<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span>Lord<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span>will find new strength.<\/span><\/span>
<\/span>    <\/span><\/span>They will soar high on wings like eagles.<\/span><\/span>
They will run and not grow weary.<\/span><\/span>
<\/span>    <\/span><\/span>They will walk and not faint.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

My mother cross-stitched part of this passage and hung it on our family\u2019s wall where it still is today.  <\/span>I am but a youth of an adult who is tired, diseased and so often near exhaustion.  <\/span>These days, with the reminder of the eagles along the river trail, these verses are dear to my heart.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
