{"id":148,"date":"2016-12-14T19:42:00","date_gmt":"2016-12-14T19:42:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cherylrostek.com\/index.php\/2016\/12\/14\/update-dec-12-16\/"},"modified":"2016-12-14T19:42:00","modified_gmt":"2016-12-14T19:42:00","slug":"update-dec-12-16","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cherylrostek.com\/index.php\/2016\/12\/14\/update-dec-12-16\/","title":{"rendered":"Update &#8211; Dec. 12\/16"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"margin: 0px;\">I haven\u2019t given much of an update for a long time so here\u2019s a recap of the last couple weeks.<span style=\"margin: 0px;\">&nbsp; <\/span><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"margin: 0px;\">Going to the cancer centre every weekday has become like a \u201cjob\u201d for me.<span style=\"margin: 0px;\">&nbsp; <\/span>At first it was all new and so was more taxing.<span style=\"margin: 0px;\">&nbsp; <\/span>Now it is just routine and this is a good thing for me! (Though certainly it does become tedious heading out there daily).<\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"margin: 0px;\">&nbsp;My side effects from treatment are still minimal.<span style=\"margin: 0px;\">&nbsp; <\/span>My hair has just started to thin out a bit (my hair loss will be patchy \u2013 just in the spots where the radiation hits my scalp; my chemo won\u2019t cause hairloss) I am starting to get more tired, but it seems manageable as long as I get a solid night\u2019s rest and have a few days a week where I get some quiet time\/rest time during the day.<span style=\"margin: 0px;\">&nbsp; <\/span>It\u2019s more of a mental fatigue than physical so I don\u2019t sleep during the day; but, my \u201csoul\u201d needs to rest\/journal\/recharge.<span style=\"margin: 0px;\">&nbsp; <\/span>I do find that I am pushed to impatience much easier than usual and at times this is a challenge.<span style=\"margin: 0px;\">&nbsp; <\/span>However, if I take care of myself by allotting my needed rest, I feel really good.<span style=\"margin: 0px;\">&nbsp; <\/span>Last week was a challenge because all 3 of the kids were sick and so I didn\u2019t sleep good at night.<span style=\"margin: 0px;\">&nbsp; <\/span>I then found a bit of headache and mild nausea popping into my day; but again they were manageable.<\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"margin: 0px;\">&nbsp;I am adhering to a low carb diet, but have decided to give myself much grace in this area.<span style=\"margin: 0px;\">&nbsp; <\/span>I eat small portions of starchy foods, but am still really limiting them.<span style=\"margin: 0px;\">&nbsp; <\/span>I am still trying to emphasize veggies and fruit.<span style=\"margin: 0px;\">&nbsp; <\/span>I was finding that meal planning was just too onerous if I had such a rigid diet, and really I am unsure of the benefit of going full out low-carb.<span style=\"margin: 0px;\">&nbsp; <\/span>Speaking of meal planning.<span style=\"margin: 0px;\">&nbsp; <\/span>This is currently the area that is the most demanding (and cleaning).<span style=\"margin: 0px;\">&nbsp; <\/span>I don\u2019t like meal planning at the best of times, so now is even less fun.<span style=\"margin: 0px;\">&nbsp; <\/span>Cleaning, I\u2019m hoping to hire someone to clean.<span style=\"margin: 0px;\">&nbsp; <\/span>I just need to find someone (we have a contact for someone in Abbotsford, but it would be nice to have someone local) and to figure out how to get my crew out of the house for the bulk of the time the cleaner is here so she can actually do her job!<\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"margin: 0px;\">&nbsp;My parents were out for 3 weeks and they have just gone home. Ryan\u2019s mom will now be helping us out a couple days a week and our nanny about 3 days.<\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"margin: 0px;\"><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"margin: 0px;\"><u>So, people have asked how they can help<\/u>:<\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"margin: 0px;\">1.<span style=\"margin: 0px;\">&nbsp; <\/span>Meals are much appreciated! My family loves pasta dishes, so these are great; but, I\u2019m trying to stay away from them, so meals that are protein focused (ie a chicken bake dish with a veggie) are also helpful.<span style=\"margin: 0px;\">&nbsp; <\/span>Thank you in advance, I really appreciate everyone\u2019s generosity with food.<span style=\"margin: 0px;\">&nbsp; <\/span><span style=\"margin: 0px;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"margin: 0px;\">(I particularly have a hankering for some veggie soup if anyone happens to like making it\/has some on hand.)<\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"margin: 0px;\">&nbsp;2.<span style=\"margin: 0px;\">&nbsp; <\/span>A referral to a local cleaner who would be flexible enough with my kids\u2019 not so flexible schedule.<\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"margin: 0px;\">&nbsp;3. Keep      praying.<span style=\"margin: 0px;\">&nbsp; <\/span>Prayer for God\u2019s mighty      power to encourage and strengthen me daily and destroy those cancer cells.      I am also particularly encouraged when people send me messages to tell me      how they have been praying.<span style=\"margin: 0px;\">&nbsp; <\/span>I      really enjoy connecting with people through messages. <\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0px;\"><u><br \/><\/u><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"margin: 0px;\"><u>Moments of thankfulness.<\/u><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"margin: 0px;\"><\/div>\n<p><span dir=\"LTR\" style=\"margin: 0px;\">1. I am <i><u>so<\/u><\/i> delighted by my kids lately.<span style=\"margin: 0px;\">&nbsp; <\/span>I have said to close friends how I have now reached a point where I couldn\u2019t imagine <i>not<\/i>having 3 kids! (It was certainly not in my plans and has been a challenge during the twins\u2019 first year).<span style=\"margin: 0px;\">&nbsp; <\/span>I now feel so incredibly blessed as a mom (this is a whole blog post in itself\u2026..) <\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"margin: 0px;\"><span style=\"margin: 0px;\"><span style=\"margin: 0px;\"><span style=\"font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; font: 7pt &quot;Times New Roman&quot;; margin: 0px;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">2.<\/span>&nbsp; <\/span><\/span><\/span><span dir=\"LTR\" style=\"margin: 0px;\">Playing in the snow with the twins and sledding with Rayna (the latter did give me a bit of a&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; headache, but was loads of fun!)<\/span><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"margin: 0px;\"><span dir=\"LTR\" style=\"margin: 0px;\">3. A visit from Ryan\u2019s dear lifelong family friends<\/span><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"margin: 0px;\"><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"margin: 0px;\"><u>Requests for prayer<\/u><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"margin: 0px;\"><span style=\"margin: 0px;\"><span style=\"margin: 0px;\"><span style=\"font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; font: 7pt &quot;Times New Roman&quot;; margin: 0px;\"><u><span style=\"font-size: small;\">1.<\/span><\/u>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/span><\/span><\/span><span dir=\"LTR\" style=\"margin: 0px;\">Wisdom in balancing the desire to be socially engaged (particularly important for Ryan these days as that is how he gets recharged) with my need for rest and personal quiet time (which is how I recharge)<\/span><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"margin: 0px;\"><span dir=\"LTR\" style=\"margin: 0px;\">2.&nbsp; Prayer that the chemo and radiation are zapping those cancer cells into oblivion<\/span><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"margin: 0px;\"><span dir=\"LTR\" style=\"margin: 0px;\">3.
