{"id":768,"date":"2020-01-02T19:48:28","date_gmt":"2020-01-03T03:48:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cherylrostek.com\/?p=768"},"modified":"2020-02-04T12:33:02","modified_gmt":"2020-02-04T20:33:02","slug":"a-new-year-welcome-to-a-daunting-new-decade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cherylrostek.com\/index.php\/2020\/01\/02\/a-new-year-welcome-to-a-daunting-new-decade\/","title":{"rendered":"A New Year: Welcome to a Daunting New Decade!"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Anticipating New Year&#8217;s I&#8217;ve been excited to bravely step into what 2020 has in store.\u00a0 I&#8217;m focusing on letting go of &#8220;what was&#8221; in order to fully embrace &#8220;what is&#8221;.\u00a0 And I&#8217;m looking forward to learning increasingly more what being an author is all about.\u00a0 I&#8217;m excited about 2020 BUT THEN,<\/div>\n<div>.<\/div>\n<div>I started to see on social media all the hype about 2020 and reflecting on the past decade and making intentions for the next.<\/div>\n<div>.<\/div>\n<div>Full stop.<\/div>\n<div>.<\/div>\n<div>At this point I froze with overwhelm. \u00a0I&#8217;m still very much processing the past decade inclusive of all it&#8217;s trauma and struggle \u00a0(the contents of the memoir I&#8217;m writing)<\/div>\n<div>.<\/div>\n<div>The next <em><strong>decade<\/strong><\/em>, well that feels utterly daunting. \u00a0Statistics for 10 year survivors of glioblastoma are so few they are case reports, major outliers. \u00a0So as I see others cheering on the upcoming decade, I cannot.<\/div>\n<div>.<\/div>\n<div>So what do I do?<\/div>\n<div>.<\/div>\n<div>I embrace the wisdom that Disney has given me in the Frozen 2 movie (which I LOVED!!!! though I find most of the Disney princesses inspiring):<\/div>\n<div>.<\/div>\n<div>I WILL DO THE NEXT RIGHT THING.<\/div>\n<div>.<\/div>\n<div>Anna is faced with an impossible task when she chooses to face fear head on and bravely press into the unknown, one step at a time.<\/div>\n<div>.<\/div>\n<div>Brene Brown has taught me that bravery is not the absence of fear. Bravery is not letting fear have the final say. \u00a0It is stepping into uncertainty boldly when you&#8217;re shaking with fear.
