{"id":875,"date":"2020-12-23T16:39:54","date_gmt":"2020-12-24T00:39:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cherylrostek.com\/?p=875"},"modified":"2020-12-23T16:39:54","modified_gmt":"2020-12-24T00:39:54","slug":"christmas-letter-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cherylrostek.com\/index.php\/2020\/12\/23\/christmas-letter-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"Christmas Letter 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>Rostek Christmas Letter 2020<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the doorstep of Christmas I almost forgot to write our annual Christmas Letter.\u00a0 That\u2019s what kind of year it&#8217;s been.\u00a0 The tree is up, with gifts beneath and the excitement of children\u2019s anticipation is bouncing off the walls.\u00a0 And yet, with less external fanfare due to Covid restrictions, it\u2019s felt like the day isn\u2019t actually going to come.\u00a0 LOL.\u00a0 But yesterday the snow fell and fell and fell some more.\u00a0 Snow right before Christmas is beautiful anywhere, here in the Fraser Valley it is absolutely <\/span><b><i>magical. <\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now as I sit to actually write this letter which seemingly has little to say since there were no big trips this year and occasions were rather muted, I\u2019m reminded of Brene Brown\u2019s statement: The most joy is found in ordinary moments.\u00a0 Ordinary, simple, muted, moments.\u00a0 There were lots of those this year!\u00a0 With an abundance of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">this <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sort of joy in my heart, I am <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SO\u00a0 <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">grateful for <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SO <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">much.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another year. WOW! (Pause here to let me wipe my weepy eyes).<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Healthy children growing older.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I\u2019m alive to witness this all, with my loving husband by my side.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I just listened to the hymn How Great Thou Art.\u00a0 Perhaps you want to listen too, as you read along joining our family in the ordinary moments of this past year. \u201cI scarce can take it in\u201d how blessed we are.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In February our dear friends Brad and Ashley (&amp; kids) visited us.\u00a0 It was fun to explore our local area for 3 days together including a trip to Science World and Flood Falls.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Next up was Rayna\u2019s 8th birthday in March.\u00a0 We excitedly made all the preparations arranging a tea party birthday party for her and several friends.\u00a0 She attended 2 birthday parties the weekend before hers, then as the week progressed it became clear: she would not be able to have this birthday party.\u00a0 This was a disappointment and a birthday to be remembered for all the wrong reasons!\u00a0 Regardless, she has grown into a very responsible and mature eight year old.\u00a0 She adores reading and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">devours <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hundreds of pages a week!\u00a0 Piano is not the same story; she \u201chates\u201d it, but her hard work is paying off and she is progressing beautifully!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also this spring was <\/span><b>Ryan\u2019s 40th birthday!!!!!! <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Though we didn\u2019t get to celebrate in Vegas as planned, and the actual day was without much fanfare Ryan\u2019s brother organized a belated surprise party at Cultus Lake with family and a couple friends in summer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spring was filled with numerous neighborhood walks and trips to the schoolyard field amidst homeschooling Rayna.\u00a0 Thankfully, in summer playgrounds opened; we spent much time across the street at our splash park.\u00a0 Cultus Lake was also a favorite- the only place we could go to swim since pools were closed!\u00a0 Though our roadtrip to Saskatchewan was cancelled, a huge summer highlight was days at the Waterslides and Cultus Lake Adventure Park rides.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fall brought: SCHOOL!!!!! (so thankful they were opened again!) Garrett and Allison started Kindergarten and LOVE it!\u00a0 (Rayna also loves school!)\u00a0 It is strange and delightful to have 2 five year olds in our home (they\u2019re growing up so fast!)\u00a0 To celebrate their 5th birthdays in October we spent a night alongside extended family at Harrison Hot Springs Resort.\u00a0 Given restrictions, it was an absolute perfect way to celebrate and they loved the pools!!!!\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the kids in school I\u2019ve had some free time again and have made tremendous progress on writing my memoir and beginning to plan for editing, publishing and marketing it.\u00a0 This has been fun, scary, exciting and a lot of work!\u00a0 Ryan\u2019s was able to continue working all throughout the pandemic, which is great.\u00a0 Playing pickleball\u2019s a different story and has been sorely missed in spring and now again with Covid restrictions.\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As we press into Christmas Day and the New Year I tune my heart to the Wonder of the Season.\u00a0 I hold this year\u2019s memories and these upcoming Christmas morning moments with a sentimental, soft and gracious heart.\u00a0 <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is what it&#8217;s all about!\u00a0 Love received from the Source of all love, whom we celebrate on Christmas- Jesus himself!
